Why is Teeth Whitening So Popular?

Well, you can probably guess the answer to that question without our help. White teeth give off a healthy glow (especially when someone smiles), that just wouldn’t have the same effect if someone’s teeth were yellow, brown, or another less than desirable color. That could be one of the many reasons why it’s so popular right now.

At Westtown Dental Care, one of the leading orthodontist offices in Chester County, PA, and other local areas, we’ve always been told the phrase to pave your own path and not do what everyone else is doing, but in this case, you may want to follow everyone else and get your teeth whitened. Fortunately, there are many teeth whitening products and systems out there, including toothpastes, strips, trays, gels, and rinses, that can help you achieve the picture-perfect smile that you’ve been longing for, all without having to spend too much money.

What does teeth whitening do?

Teeth whitening is a process used to lighten your teeth (surprise!) and remove any discoloration and stains. It’s one of the most popular dental procedures right now because it can greatly improve how your teeth look. If you’re interested in this treatment and you’d like the outcome of whiter teeth at an affordable price, you can rely on our West Chester, PA cosmetic dentistry team here at Westtown Dental Care.

What are the most common reasons people need teeth whitening?

Although anyone who wants whiter teeth can choose to get this treatment, there are sometimes specific reasons why people choose to get teeth whitening care from their dentist or orthodontist. The reasons that someone may need this treatment include:

  • Consistently drinking dark-colored liquids including soda, coffee, red wine, and tea
  • Using tobacco
  • Not taking good care of their teeth

These actions may cause your teeth to become yellow or stained, which leads to the desire for teeth whitening. If you believe that you could benefit from this procedure, we encourage you to look more into the teeth whitening process that we offer here at Westtown Dental Care. What are Veneers and How Would They Benefit You?

In simplest terms, veneers are used to improve the appearance of your front teeth. They’re also an excellent way to reshape and redesign your entire mouth. If you’re currently unhappy with your smile and believe that filling out and straightening your teeth is just what you need to improve it, then this treatment may be for you.

Here at Westtown Dental Care, a leading Invisalign dentist serving Newtown Square, PA, and the surrounding areas, we offer this treatment as a way to mask discolorations, brighten your teeth, and most of all, improve your smile. In this blog, we’re going to cover what veneers are and how they could benefit you.

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin, ceramic shells that are used to cover the existing structure of your tooth or teeth. These small pieces of porcelain will help recreate the natural look of your teeth while providing them with strength and resilience that’s comparable to natural tooth enamel. They’re custom-made to fit the contour of your teeth, and then bonded to the original enamel of your teeth through a series of in-office procedures.

Why are veneers used as treatments?

Veneers are used in many situations as an alternative to crowns because they provide a more conservative approach when it comes to changing the color, size or shape of a tooth or teeth. They can mask unattractive defects on the teeth, including stains made by tetracycline and damages due to an injury or previously botched procedure. Veneers normally last for many years when the procedure is performed correctly.

What are the benefits?

  • Long-lasting and durable - Veneers usually last for at least 12 to 25 years.
  • Masks undesirable defects - If your teeth are discolored, chipped, broken, worn down, uneven, misaligned or irregularly shaped, veneers will fix or mask those flaws.
  • Improves your smile - The primary reason anyone wants to get their teeth fixed is to improve their smile. With veneers, there’s no doubt that you’ll have a more attractive smile.

Whether you’re seeking veneers, Invisalign or another type of treatment, you can find it here at Westtown Dental Care. We have an Invisalign dentist who serves Glen Mills, PA, and other local areas, who will be happy to treat you. To learn more about veneers, contact us at 484-712-2010.

This New Year’s Resolution - Improve Your Smile!

Are you wondering what your New Year’s resolution should be for 2017? Most people choose the typical ones: to lose weight, spend more time with friends and family, find a life-changing career, and others, but you don’t hear many that choose to improve their teeth and smile. At Westtown Dental Care, we believe this is the year in which you should choose straighter and healthier teeth for your New Year’s resolution. Because this is one resolution that you can keep for a very long time.

If you prefer a personalized approach when it comes to dental care, please feel free to come to our office for a free cosmetic consultation. Here are some of the ways you can improve your smile using our services:

  • Braces - When you think about braces, you probably think that they’re only for children. But that’s actually not the case. Anyone from kids to adults can wear braces to straighten their teeth and improve their smile. Braces are used in orthodontics to align teeth and help move them into their proper positions. Just think about how perfect your teeth will look when you get them off.
  • Dental implants - If you happen to be missing or multiple teeth, dental implants in Glen Mills, PA , and the surrounding areas, may be right for you. They’re best described as artificial tooth roots that will provide a permanent base for replacement teeth. They feel, function, and fit like natural teeth, causing them to become the new standard in tooth replacement.
If you aren’t looking for professional treatment for your

teeth, there are many ways to take better care of them in the comfort of your

own home. Doing things as simple as improving your brushing and flossing habits

and choosing healthier foods and drinks will go a long way. To learn more about

Are You Considering Invisalign? Here’s What You Should Know

Young or old, male or female, almost anyone can benefit from using Invisalign. You may be here because you’re wondering how to straighten your teeth without wearing braces. Luckily, there is a way, and although that way is relatively new, it has been proven by thousands of people across the world as an effective way to straighten teeth and improve smiles.

Invisalign is a treatment that allows you to use removable clear plastic aligners to straighten out your smile and ultimately make your mouth healthier. If you’re considering getting Invisalign in Downingtown, PA, and other local areas (whether for yourself or your child) here’s what you should know:

How does Invisalign work?

Although Invisalign straighten teeth just as braces do, their structure is much different. They are virtually invisible aligners that are custom-made to fit in your mouth and shift your teeth into the correct positions. Although you can remove the aligner for eating, we recommend wearing it for at least 22 hours a day to get the best and quickest results. We’ll use a computer program to generate a series of these aligners, which will produce a new set for you about every two weeks.

What are the advantages of using Invisalign?

If you’re still a bit wary about trying Invisalign, just take a look at the many advantages they’ll provide for you. These benefits include:

  • Virtually invisible - No one may even notice that you’re wearing Invisalign unless you let them know.
  • Removable - One of the primary reasons people choose Invisalign is that it offers them the ability to remove their aligners, which makes eating and brushing their teeth easier and more comfortable.
  • No metal brackets or wires - Metal brackets and wires can cause discomfort and irritation of the mouth for both children and adults. However, these issues can be avoided by choosing Invisalign.

At Westtown Dental Care, we use modern and innovative treatments to straighten your teeth and provide you or your child with a winning smile. If you’re thinking about getting Invisalign or braces, we encourage you to consult with our Invisalign dentist in Glen Mills, PA, and the surrounding areas. To learn more about these invisible aligners and other orthodontic treatments, contact us at 484-712-2010.

How to Brush Properly (When You Have Braces)

Did you or a loved one recently get braces? If so, you may have discovered that it’s a bit harder to brush your teeth than it was in the past. Even if you don’t have braces, it’s pretty hard to find the proper technique that will help you succeed in your quest for clean and healthy teeth. Although getting braces may increase the difficulty of brushing your teeth, don’t worry, we’ll tell you how to do it right, and practically eliminate your chances of getting a cavity.

At Westtown Dental Care, all we want is to provide you with a winning smile. To do that, we offer a wide variety of dental and orthodontic treatments including the Healthy Start System, Invisalign, and braces in Chester County, PA, and other local areas. But you came here for the brushing instructions, so here’s how to brush your teeth properly when you have braces:

1. Get the right toothbrush - We encourage you to get the toothbrush that will work best for you and you’re most comfortable with. Some people get an electric toothbrush because it’s easier to get areas that are harder to reach, but others like to use a more traditional toothbrush. If you do use regular, just remember that it’s a bit harder to maneuver the toothbrush around your mouth and you’ll probably have to replace it more often.

2. Rinse with water before you start - This will help remove any food that might be lodged in or around your braces.

3. Brush above and below the brackets - Instead of just getting the front and back of the teeth (like when you don’t have braces), you’ll need to also brush above and below the brackets. Start with above the brackets and angle the toothbrush downward. Then, go below the brackets and angle the toothbrush upward.

Also, don’t forget to floss and use mouthwash. If you’re looking for an orthodontist in Chester County, PA, and the surrounding areas, come to Westtown Dental Care. We offer treatments to help straighten your teeth and give you a beautiful smile. We can also give you good advice on brushing your teeth. To learn more about our braces and their effective alternatives, contact us at 484-712-2010.

What is the Healthy Start System?

What if we told you that we could prevent crooked, overcrowded, and gapped teeth before they even fully grew in? Well, you might be a little skeptical, and we don’t blame you. However, it’s the truth, because we can prevent your child from needing braces in the future.

At Westtown Dental Care, we provide dental care for kids in West Chester, PA, and other local areas, and we can prevent rather than correct through the use of our Healthy Start System. When a child’s teeth first come in, there’s usually nothing you can do but let them grow in however they want. Once the permanent teeth are finally all set, then you can start thinking about braces or other methods to correct their teeth, if need be. But the Healthy Start System works as a natural way to straighten teeth.

How does the Healthy Start System work?

This system separates itself from traditional orthodontics through new, revolutionary treatment. We use this non-invasive method to treat children early and as a natural way to straighten their teeth. You can say goodbye to plastic aligners, braces, and surgery by using our system to help your child achieve a picture-perfect smile.

The Healthy Start System works with natural tooth eruption and growth. We use a series of comfortable and removable appliances that guide the teeth into their correct positions. This gives their teeth room to come in straight and allows them to develop proper oral hygiene habits.

What are the benefits of the Healthy Start System?

There are plenty of benefits for your child when you choose the Healthy Start System. They’ll experience the following:

●Little to no discomfort when using the soft, comfortable, and removable devices
●Prevent crooked teeth rather than correcting crooked teeth
●Works naturally with facial growth and development
●Achieves permanent results without using braces or surgery

At Westtown Dental Care, we strive to provide our patients with beautiful and lasting smiles. Not only do we help children, but we also offer dentistry for the entire family in West Chester, PA, and the surrounding areas. To learn more about the Healthy Start System, contact us at 484-712-2010.
